Report on the SC Youth Soccer Board of Directors meeting held on October 19, 2008
The SC Youth Soccer Association held its regularly scheduled Board of Directors meeting on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at our new office in Irmo, SC.   Listed below is a summary of relevant matters considered by the Board of Directors at this meeting.

  1. Please note this is the “first” Board of Directors meeting held in the new state office.
  2. Cups & Games Director, Steve Cothran, reported that preparations are well under way for the upcoming Fall State Cup events being held in the Greenville area and hosted by Carolina FC and CESA.
  3. State Cup applications and maps to all fields are available on the web site. Schedules will also be available on the web site when completed.
  4. All coaches need to be reminded they are required to submit an Ejection Report for any player or coach ejected from a match, as directed or they will be subject to disciplinary action.  Policy also requires that notification must be submitted when the suspension has been served.
  5. Steve Cothran reported that a serious shortage of referees exist across the state, especially in the Columbia area
  6. SC Youth Soccer policy requires that referees check all player and coaches passes prior to the start of a match for all “classic” games. All U10 and above recreation and academy teams are required to have either their player and coaches passes or their official league roster checked by the referee prior to the start of a match.
  7. The ’92 Boys ODP team will be competing at the Region III ODP Championship Tournament in Louisiana in January.
  8. CESA is organizing and preparing to host the 2009 Region III President’s Cup next June in Greenville.
  9. The Board of Directors changed their March 15, 2009, Board of Directors meeting to March 22, 2009, because the USSF AGM is scheduled for that weekend.

Congratulations to Tanner Eggers for being selected to the U.S. Under-14 Boy’s National Team for the upcoming Camp November 26 – December 1, 2008 in Orlando, Florida at Disney’s Wide World of Sports for the Thanksgiving Inter-Regional Classic. Tanner is from Moore, SC.

About US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program
US Youth Soccer ODP, established in 1977, is the original Olympic development program in the United States. Formed to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team could be selected for international competition, selected players are exposed to the nation's top coaches from collegiate institutions, U.S. Soccer and the professional leagues. Programs exist in each state and with competitions such as the US Youth Soccer ODP National Championships, Interregional Training/Competition, Regional Camps and International play. US Youth Soccer ODP continues to lead the way in elite player identification and development. US Youth Soccer ODP is an approved program of the U.S. Soccer Federation.

Inspect Soccer Goals
Inspect all soccer goals, soccer fields, grounds and equipment used by your organization to ensure that your club is in compliance and will remain in compliance throughout the seasonal year with all safety guidelines covered on the Soccer Goal/Field Inspection Form.

Every time a coach steps on the soccer field, it is the responsibility of that coach to ensure that the fields are safe to play on and that the goals are properly secured.
